Distances Kalkan is situated on the Turquoise Mediterranean coast.  Many Lycian historical sites offering a fascinating glimpse into the past are within an hours drive of the town, often reached by jeep safaris into the mountains. The sandy beaches of Kaputus (10 minute drive) was in the Guardian’s Top 10 beaches in Turkey and Patara … 18 miles of golden sand (15 minute drive) with turtles and Roman ruins can be reached via the local dolmus. The harbour town of Fethiye (an hours drive) and Kas .. a 20 minute drive along a beautiful coastal road are also well worth a visit.

Further Details Originally a Greek fishing village Kalkan has grown into a small town, yet still retains its charm with cobbled streets and whitewashed houses, festooned with bougainvillea, meandering down to the pretty beach and harbour. The local people are warm, welcoming, friendly, hospitable and proud of their village There are over 250 restaurants and cafes offering a variety of Turkish and International cuisine .. the service is exceptional and many have candlelit rooftop terraces with idyllic views of the bay and harbour. Kalkan beach has an abundance of waterside cafes and restaurants. Money can be exchanged at banks and the local Post office (PTT) .. the cash machine provides access to international banks. The shops offer handmade locally produced merchandise including leather, jewellery, fashion, kilim pottery and silverware. A local market is held every Thursday. Kalkan is perfect for peace and relaxation, but for those who wish to experience a more adventurous holiday.. watersports, traditional gulet boat trips, sailing, horse-riding,  sea kayaking, fishing, paragliding, canoeing, coasteering, walking the Lycian way, Jeep safaris, boat hire, river rafting and quad biking are easilly arranged  from the many tour operators in the town. Excursions can be organised to historic sites, Saklikent Gorge and the Greek Islands of Rhodes and Meis. For those seeking relaxation beach clubs … built onto rock or platforms over the sea are a great way to spend the day offering restaurant facilities, a protected swimming area and sunbeds and parasols –   accessed by free water taxis from the harbour. Kalkan has a pebbly beach and its crystal clear waters has been awarded the blue flag for cleanliness. There is a lifeguard in attendance daily. Facilities include  parasols/sunbeds showers, an outside gym and an abundance of waterside restaurants and cafes.
